Still Waters Cashmere began in 1994 in Monroe, Washington. I had decided that
I wanted to raise my own fiber to spin and work with. To our BIG surprise our 25 supposedly unbred goats
began kidding only 3 days after bringing them home. Our midwife lessons began!
In 1997 we moved ourselves and the herd of 95+ goats to North Central Washington where we live in
the Cascade Mountains. We have found the goats to thrive in this high desert climate by having a larger variety of nutritious
browse, less parasites, as well as more land to forage on encouraging strong feet and legs. Our cold winter climate
sees to it that the goats put on a nice thick coat of cashmere to keep them toasty.
We have been pleased both with the continued improvement in herd quality as well as fiber quality.
